The Most Expensive Perfume in the World

The Most Expensive Perfume in the World

Perfume is a versatile luxury, with a bottle setting you back anywhere from £20 to £20,000 — yes, really! A quick trip through your local department store can provide a whistle-stop tour of the lower end of that scale, but we’re letting you window shop at some of the most exclusive perfumeries in the world with this list. Read on to find out a little bit more about the five most expensive scents on Earth.

#5 – Chanel Grand Extrait

What would a perfume list be without Chanel? This variation on a favourite costs a cool $4,200 per ounce, which makes it slot rather fittingly into fifth place on our list. Yep, there are four even more expensive than that…

#4 – Baccarat Les Larmes Sacrees de Thebes

This exclusive scent comes in a beautiful pyramid-shape bottle, and will decorate your dressing table just as elegantly as it does your wrists. With top notes of frankincense and myrrh, Baccarat’s finest is a steal at $6,800 per ounce.

#3 – DKNY $1million bottle of Golden Delicious

A charity venture back in 2011, DKNY designed the most extravagant perfume bottle imaginable for their Golden Delicious scent. The precious vessel, adorned with 2909 precious stones, toured the world before being auctioned off. In all fairness, this one is an expensive case rather than an expensive scent, but as the two go hand in hand we felt we should feature it here.

#2 – Clive Christian No. 1 Imperial Majesty

Despite the name, Christian’s scent comes in at number two in our ranking, having recently been beaten by a newcomer to the market. At just over $12,721 per ounce, this one sneaks ahead of DKNY’s record-breaking bottle. Its top notes are light and floral, with a focus on Tahitian vanilla and rosa cantafolis.

#1 – Shumukh

A newcomer to the perfume scene in Dubai, this truly decadent scent is displayed in a crystal bottle adorned with 38.55 carats of diamonds, 2kg of 18-karat gold and over 5kg of silver. Living up to its name, which translates as “deserving the highest”, a bottle will set you back $1,295,000. Make sure not to use it all at once!

So there we have it, the most expensive perfumes available to purchase right now. We’d love to hear what your favourite perfumes are — even if they’re not on our list! Let us know in the comments below, or via our social media channels.
